[Washington D.C., December 20, 2010] – The ultimate three-dimensional tribute to America and its commanders-in-chief is one step closer to being a reality for the Washington D.C. area, as Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. today announced that its new $2 million-plus U.S. Presidents Gallery—which will house wax figures of all 44 U.S. presidents—opens its doors to the public on Thursday, February 17—just in time for Presidents Day. The launch of the Gallery will make Madame Tussauds D.C. the only place in the world where people can see and interact with all 44 U.S. presidents.

Since the Gallery was announced last February, Madame Tussauds studio artists have been working tirelessly to create entirely new wax figures of 28 U.S. presidents. In anticipation of the opening of the Presidents Gallery, figures of presidents have been popping up across the country. Throughout the year, figure sightings have included: President Gerald Ford at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum for the 97th anniversary of his birthday; founding fathers George Washington and Thomas Jefferson at the Independence Visitor Center in Philadelphia over the July 4th holiday; and most recently, Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, which took a road trip to Mount Rushmore in honor of the 69th anniversary of the monument’s completion. A tremendous undertaking, each figure takes about three to four months to complete and requires an extensive amount of work. In order to make the figures as lifelike as possible, Madame Tussauds artists have to study hundreds of photographs, and when available, hours of video footage. Of course in some cases, the artists did not have the luxury of photographs or videos, and needed to rely on historical accounts, even paintings.
The U.S. Presidents Gallery will serve as a rich educational resource and include a curriculum focused on the history of the U.S. presidents. The new curriculum will fully complement the attraction’s existing and free comprehensive Educational Curriculum Guide, which was developed in accordance with the U.S. Department of National Social Studies Standards and National Council for the Social Civil Rights Movement Studies Standards. The guide was designed to empower educators with the tools they need to deliver exciting lessons in areas such as history, political science, social studies and media – before and after visiting the attraction.

The Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Las Vegas unveiled their new Gwen Stefani wax figure today. The pop star was on hand for the big reveal, and as you can see the figure doesn't exactly look like the singer. It seems that the figure is based on an older version of the Gwen Sefani look. The real person is a lot more tan than the figure.
The figure stands alone. It looks like they created a whole body mold for this one.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Washington D.C. unveiled a new wax figure of pop singer Rhianna this past week. Here we see the figure before it was revealed in the museum. It is kind of a strange pose, but not unrealistic.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Hollywood unveiled their new Jane Lynch figure this week. Lynch, a Hollywood veteran, has become quite popular for her recent role in the fox television show Glee.

On April 1st, Comedian and talk show host George Lopez unveiled his new wax figure at Madame Tussaud's Hollywood. Here we see him do the traditional "pose like your wax figure" stance. Lopez had detailed the wax figure process on his show, and now he joins other Hollywood celebrities at the new museum.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in New York City unveiled a new wax figure of tennis star Serena Williams this week. The figure has the full body wax feature that most figures don't have. No head and hands only with miss Williams. Although the figure's head could have been sculpted better, the detail in the body is pretty terrific. Look for this figure to get duplicated and make its way into other Madame Tussaud's wax museums.
This past week, Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Las Vegas unveiled a new figure of magician and entertainer Criss Angel. The figure has a contemporary mystical pose, highlighting his dark, and mysterious image. The figure is shirtless, and only a vest covers its top. Sculpting muscles can be very difficult, but they seem realistic, as well as pretty ripped.

This week, Madame Tussaud's Las Vegas unveiled their newest figure. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman now has his own wax doppelganger, and is immortalized along with the likes of Robert Schuller, Sammy Davis JR. and Hugh Hefner. The figure (that's it on the left) looks more realistic than the actual man. At least less slouchy.

In some not so recent news, Madame Tussaud's New York unveiled a wax figure of Yao Ming on March 18th. The figure, on loan from their Shanghai location shows the NBA star in full uniform.
It takes two acrobats to equal one Yao Ming.
A close up of the Olympian. They always say that they insert human hair one strand at a time. I guess that also applies to under arm hair.
The figure seem to be a hit with fans. The figure will be at the New York location for six months.

NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas was on hand to unveil his brand new wax figure at the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Washington D.C. this week. The figure, which is very accurate, looks just like him. As always, Tussaud's did a terific job sculpting the figure, and the outcome is quite impressive.

The Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum franchise has been busy this week with the unveiling of several new figures. In New York, Daniel Craig has been honored with a new figure representing his James Bond character. Here we see it in a black tuxedo, waiting for any spy stuff to happen. The figure is quite realistic, and much taller than the Tinkerbell and Chipmunk figures recently unveiled.

Tinkerbell was not the only pint sized addition to hit madame Tussaud's this past week. Alvin and the Chipmunks also received wax figures at the Las Vegas museum. Although the singing rodents are covered in fur, the museum decided that they deserved the wax treatment. They stand 18 inches tall, and are in a dancing pose. Not many non human and/or fictitious characters get made into wax figures at Madame Tussaud's. And in Las Vegas, the Chipmunks Join Master Chief from Halo, Spiderman, and Siegfried and Roy's Tiger in that category.
This past week, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London released a new Tinkerbell wax figure. The miniature figure is only 5 and a half inches tall, and is perched on a tree branch. The detail is amazing for such a small figure, and it must be far more fragile than a normal wax figure.
An artist touches up her face, and adds the last few details before the figure is unveiled. Tink reminds me of the Christmas tree topper my family had when I was a kid.

The pop trio are seen here playing their instruments and/or standing at the microphone. The group is very popular among the Teeny Bopper set, and the reception that the figures received are proof of that.
