American Heritage Wax Museum- The Bar at Tombstone

In this scene from the American Heritage Wax Museum, we see the Clanton boys harassing the Earp boys. Wyatt, and his brothers, Virgil and Morgan, seem put out by the open lawlessness of Tombstone Arizona. This tension leads to the famous "Gunfight at the OK Corral".

A closer view of the Earp Boys. They seem to be having fun gambling. The women of the saloon also seem to be enjoying the company of the Earps.

I suppose this is Doc Holliday. He looks pretty good for someone with Consumption. The showgirl doesn't seem to mind either.

The "evil" Clantons. Although they couldn't seem to back it up with their pistols, these cowboys talk a mean talk in the bar.


From the side, and in color, the bad guys of the town won't let the Earps have any fun.

From the front and in black and white. The old west has been glorified the last century, but I wouldn't want to live in such a lawless place.

News- Jackie Chan Kicks His Way into Madame Tussaud's

Almost in time for his new movie The Forbidden Kingdom, Madame Tussaud's in New York unveiled a new Jackie Chan Figure yesterday. The simple figure has Chan posing in a traditional outfit. Not much fanfare went into the unveiling, some martial arts experts helped with its introduction, but Chan wasn't in attendance.

A closer shot of the figure. Like most figures at madame Tussaud's, he has a happy expression. Imagine posing with it and it has a sour look on its face.

Hollywood Wax Museum- The Ten Commandments

In today's post we see the image of Academy Award winning actor Charlton Heston(1924-2008) as moses from the motion picture The Ten Commandments. In this epic scene, Moses returns from Mount Sinai only to discover the Jews worshiping the golden calf. In a moment of righteous anger, Moses destroys the commandments, and judgement is fallen upon the Israelites. Unlike most wax depictions of Moses, this one highlights the Moses of film, and not the Moses of history.

Another view of the classic figure shows that its expression doesn't quite seem to reflect the full amount of anger Moses had towards his people. However, the figure does have a charm that the vintage figures always seemed to convey.

Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf- Pope Benedict XVI

In honor of his historic visit to The United States of America, today's post features Pope Benedict XVI. This figure, from the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf, is a very realistic and detailed representation of his excellency. The outfit, and the facial features both accurately recreate the Pope with an artistry that the wax museum doesn't always capture.

From another angle, the figure displays something that you don't see in most religious wax figures, joy. He looks happy, and not as somber as most figures seem to. He truly looks as though he enjoys his role as spiritual leader of so many.

Madame Tussauds- Bride Beyonce Revisited

I recently posted about Beyonce Knowles figure at Madame Tussaud's, and how they added a veil to it in order to make it up to date. I stated how it looked like an orange wedding. Well, they are very quick to act, and the Beyonce wax figure at the Madame Tussaud's in Las Vegas now has her dressed the part. I thought that her pose made a traditional wedding dress impossible to add to the figure, and as this photograph shows, the beyoncefied it. Two piece wedding dresses are rare, but I suppose she pulls it off (no pun intended).

This view shows her rockin' out to whatever tunes they were playing at the reception. Since she's holding a microphone, I guess she was also the entertainment.

You got to love the detail of Madame Tussaud's figures. Even if there aren't any cool tableaux, the figures are always top notch.

A sign to explain to any museum guests who are confused why her figure is dressed so strangely. Take off the veil and who could tell.

News- Movieland Proposed Redevelopment. . . Again

Another proposal for the redevelopment of the old Movieland Wax Museum site is in the works. Instead of a Best buy store, a new entertainment, retail, and television studio complex is being considered. This would be a great boost to area, which badly needs something to replace the museum. The only problem I see is that the site seems too small for what is being proposed. A television studio must take up a lot of space, and restaurants and retail shops do as well. Where are the patrons going to park? The lot had plenty of space for the wax museum and Starbucks, but the Po Folks Restaurant side of the property was always pretty crowded. Unless they add parking underground, I don't see how this could happen. Similar places, like Citywalk, have far more room to work with. But the idea of a Television studio on the location where a "shrine to the stars" used to be is exciting, even if the other offerings are far from imaginative and unique.

It looks rather grand, but how many Pacific Sunwear stores do we really need?

A plan view shows the limited space for such a big idea. This is still preliminary, and if having too many people come to your business is your biggest problem, then you're in good shape. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Madame Tussauds- Beyonce Bride

How do you update a wax figure, and capitalize on a current event? Well, in the case of Beyonce's recent marriage to rapper Jay Z, you put a veil on her head. This regular wax figure of Beyonce has been standing around (or should I say dancing in place) Madame Tussaud's for a while, but since her pose doesn't make it easy to put her in a wedding dress, the next best thing is to add this veil, even if it looks strangely out of place. It's a temporary fit, and fun.

National Presidential Wax Museum- George Washington

(1732-1799)

The National Presidential Wax Museum (Formerly Parade of Presidents) in Keystone South Dakota is a terrific example of the historically themed wax museum. Here we see George Washington (President from 1789-1797), his wife Martha, and Betsy Ross with the flag of the United States. The making of the flag is one of the many historical events represented at the museum, and the scene is wonderfully decorated.

Movieland Wax Museum- Dances With Wolves

Here's a small set, that like many historical wax museums, shows a single figure in a simple tableau. Kevin Costner is John Dunbar in his 1990 Academy Award winning film Dances With Wolves. Most of the set is that backdrop that seems more grand with the lighting effects. Without it, the set is little more than dirt and rocks. The figure is fairly realistic, but for some reason doesn't seem to do the film, or actor justice.

An up close look at the figure. It's not bad. The detail is rich and the figure looks like Costner, but for some reason there's just something missing in my opinion.

A clapboard sign gives some information about the film, and the set pieces. What is an Authentic reproduction?

The Kevin Costner figure was not sold at the auction, and ended up at the World Wax Museum exhibit it Korea.

Breaking News- David and Victoria Beckham Escape From Madame Tussaud's!

Many people think that wax museums are creepy, and that the figures have an eerie quality about them. These same people suspect the figures of "watching" them as they pass by. It's not uncommon to hear stories of haunted museums where the figures seem to have moved without the aide of any living person. Well, now we have undeniable proof that this is not just in the imagination of superstitious museum guests. The David and Victoria Beckham figures that were housed in the Washington D.C. Madame Tussaud's have been caught on camera leaving the museum. Photographers spotted the escapees in a local park getting ready to play a bit of Soccer. The wax David took a ball from a group of boys playing in the park and would have began playing himself if it were not for the restrictive suit the museum's designers dressed him in.

This shot shows the figure as it dreams of playing outside, and it curses the time it was forced to live indoors.

Not knowing that springtime in our nation's capital can be quite brisk, Victoria found a scarf and quickly put it on.

Soon the authorities were called, and Madame Tussaud's rounded them up, and put them in this box. A truck eventually came to send them back to the museum, but you can be sure that the bolts that secure them to the ground will be extra strong this time.
