Movieland Wax Museum- Animal Crackers New Home pt 1

Any regular reader of Houses of Wax (If there are any), may remember my previous post on the Marx Brothers tableau at Movieland Wax Museum. Well, H.O.W. was contacted by website reader Bill, who happened to have purchased the set from the Movieland Auction in 2006. From the above photo, you can see that the set was really cool looking, and what Bill and his family did with it after they bought it was even more cool.

Here's the set sans figures, waiting for its new home.

The dismantling. Yes, all that snow is included. It took fifteen large garbage bags to hold it all! The piano was a real Baby Grand, and I am told it weighed a ton! The base of the piano is an antique pot belly stove from the turn of the 20th Century.

Just prior to the disassembly, the lucky new owners stand in front of the display.

An here the is at its brand new home. The set looks amazing! Another note on a set piece, the golf bag held antique golf clubs, balls, a toilet plunger, along with Groucho's cigar.

Another view of the set, I am so glad it continues to be appreciated. Thanks again to Bill for contacting me, and letting me share with everyone the great job they did with the Animal Crackers display.

But what happened to the wax figures? Well, I think I found them. The weren't sold at the auction, so I thought that they may have been sent to Korea for the World Wax Museum display, but a recent leads me to believe that they may be closer than I thought.

Next time Part 2, the figures reemerge.

News- Evel Knievel Jumps Into Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Las Vegas unveiled a new Evel Knievel figure honoring the late daredevil. The move coincides with the anniversary of the stunt man's awesome jump over the fountain at Caesar's Palace. Here we see the figure standing in front of a 1972 Harley Davidson XR750.

A close up of the figure. They did a great job with recreating every last detail of the figure, leading to a terrific experience.

Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf- MLK

(1929-1968)

In the spirit of the holiday, today's post focuses on Martin Luther King's wax figure at the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Because of the holiday weekend, MLK's figure stands prominently out in front of the museum. Although it does seem strange that it shares a rotating platform with Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears. For the time being, this figure is included as one of the free sneak preview figures that are on display in the lobby. Who knows who will replace him, maybe Barry Bonds again.

King stands in full pose, giving a powerful speech no doubt.

Hawaiian Wax Museum- Early Settlers (500 A.D.)

Today's post shows a scene from the Hawaiian Wax Museum which focuses on the early settlers of the Hawaiian Islands. Here we see a woman gathering food, a child either working or playing, and two men loading a boat with food. The combination of figures and mural, gives the scene a grand scale which adds to the wonder of the museum.

A close up of the woman as she looks concerned about the child.

The child about to pick up a coconut. My guess is he or she is also working.

The men diligently loading the Kaulua.

Hollywood Wax Museum- Johnny Grant

(1923-2008)

News came down today that the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, Johnny Grant, passed away. A pioneer in the city, Grant was the visible face of the transformation of the area from slum to trendy hot spot. He was always seen during the unveiling of Walk of Fame Stars, and the late great Hollywood Christmas Parade. He had the honor of receiving a wax figure in the Hollywood Wax Museum, along such celebrities as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, and Samuel L. Jackson.
